Our Community Speech and Language Therapy team provides support and advice to adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders living in Medway. This includes people living with neuro degenerative disorders such as Parkinsons Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Huntington’s Disease, MND and Dementia.
In the community, we offer assessment, specific advice and targeted therapy tailored to the client’s needs through telephone and face to face clinics and will visit at home when necessary. We also aim to provide education and support for family and carers.
We have a specialist Macmillan team who work alongside people living with head and neck cancer and a specialist voice team who work with people living with voice disorders. Our team based on the wards at Medway Maritime Hospital provides support for inpatients who have swallowing and communication needs. We have specialist Video-fluroscopy, FEEs (Fibre Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow) and EEL (Endoscopic Evaluation of Larynx) clinics held at Medway Maritime Hospital.
We accept referral from GP’s and other Health Professionals. Please see our referral criteria or email us if you like to discuss the suitability of a referral.
We aim to see urgent referrals within 2 weeks and routine referrals within 8 weeks.
