The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 19 July but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
M2 Junction 4 to Junction 7, Kent; road surface repairs
Work to improve the network continues this week on the M2 by undertaking road surface repairs. From Monday 22 July, the M2 westbound carriageway will be closed from junction 7 to junction 5 for four nights between 8pm and 4:30am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A2, A20, M20 and A249. In addition, during the weekend, from Friday 26 July, there will be a full closure of the westbound M2 carriageway between junction 7 to junction 5 between 8pm through until 8pm on Sunday 28 July. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A2, A20, M20 and A249.
M20 junctions 3 to 5, Maidstone Kent: Smart Motorways
Work to improve journeys continues this week on the M20 between junctions 3 – 5. There are currently narrow lanes and a reduced speed limit of 50mph in place 24/7. On Monday 22 July for one night there will be a full overnight closure of the M20 coastbound and London bound between junctions 2 and 4, and the M26 junction 2a to the M20. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A20. On Tuesday 23 July for one night there will be a full overnight closure of the M20 coastbound between junctions 2 and 4 and the M26 junction 2a to the M20. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A20. On Wednesday 24 for two nights there will be a full overnight closure of the M20 London bound between junctions 4 and 2. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A20. On Friday 26 July there will be a full weekend closure of the M20 London bound entry slip at junction 4 from 8pm through till 6am on Monday 29 July. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the next available junction. On Sunday 28 July there will be a full overnight closure of the M20 London bound between junctions 4 and 2. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A20.
Free recovery service and speed enforcement remain in place to ensure drivers and road workers safety.
M20 Junction 10 to 11 Sellindge, Kent: resurfacing
Work to improve the network continues this week on the M20. From Monday 22 July there will be a lane closures of the westbound M20 carriageway from junction 11 to junction 10 for five nights between 8pm and 6am.
M23 junctions 8 to 10, Surrey: Smart Motorways
Work to improve journeys continues this week on the M23. Narrow lanes and a reduced speed limit of 50mph north and south bound 24/7. Free recovery service and speed enforcement are now in place to ensure drivers and road workers safety.
A2 Barham, Kent: resurfacing
Work to improve the network continues this week on the A2 from Barham to Coxhill. From Monday 22 July there will be a full closure of the eastbound A2 carriageway from the Barham Interchange to Coxhill Road for five nights between 8pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A299 and the A256.
A2 Gravesend, Kent: resurfacing
Work to improve the network continues this week on the A2 in Gravesend. From Monday 22 July the A2 eastbound carriageway will be reduced to one lane between the Tollgate junction and Marling Cross for five nights between 8pm and 6am. In addition, from Monday 22 July there will be a full closure of the eastbound A2 entry and exit slip roads to & from Cobham and the eastbound exit slip road to Rochester for five nights between 8pm and 6am. Clearly signed diversions for each slip road closure will be in place via the next available junction.
A21 Tonbridge, Kent; Survey Investigations
To improve the network, surveys take place this week on the A21 to ascertain the current ground condition of the carriageway. On Monday 22 July the southbound A21 exit slip road to Vauxhall Lane will be closed overnight between 8pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the next available junction.
A21 Tonbridge, Kent: Weakened structure
For the safety of road users there is currently a 50mph speed restriction, and also a weight restriction between Philpots Lane overbridge and the junction of London Road A26 in both directions of the A21.
A27 Boxgrove, Sussex; Resurfacing
Work to improve safety continues this week by resurfacing sections of the A27. From Monday 22 July there will be a full closure of the eastbound A27 carriageway between Temple Bar (A285) and Fontwell (A29) from 8pm and 6am for five nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A29, A259 and A27.
A27 Emsworth, Sussex: maintenance works
Works to improve the network continue this week on the A27 at Emsworth. From Monday 22 July there will be slip road closures of the eastbound A27 carriageway. A clearly signed diversion for each slip road closure will be in place via the next available junction. Closure times and dates are detailed below:
On Monday 22 July, the A27 entry slip road from Emsworth will be closed overnight nights between 9pm and 6am.
On Tuesday 23 July, the A27 entry and exit slip roads to and from Temple Bar will be closed overnight between 9pm and 6am
On Wednesday 24 July, the A27 exit slip road to Patching will be closed overnight between 9pm and 6am
Also on Wednesday 24 July, the A27 entry slip road from Crossbush will be closed overnight between 9pm and 6am
On Thursday 25 July, the A27 entry and exit slip roads to and from Patching will be closed overnight between 9pm and 6am
On Friday 26 July, the A27 entry and exit slip roads to and from Adur will be closed overnight between 9pm and 6am
A27 Portfield, Sussex: Construction
Work to improve the network continues this week on the A27. There are currently narrow lanes and a reduced speed limit of 50mph on the A27 westbound carriageway between Temple Bar and Portfield.
A27 Portslade, Kent: Tunnel Maintenance
Work to improve journeys take place this week by undertaking routine tunnel maintenance on the A27. From Friday 26 June there will be a full carriageway closure of the A27 in both directions between Holmbush to Hangleton for two nights between 8pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A270 and A293.
A27 Worthing, Sussex: Resurfacing
Work to improve safety continues this week by resurfacing sections of the A27. There are currently 24 hour lane closures in both directions between Cote Street and Dover Lane. These will remain in place during July 2019. Also, from Monday 22 July there will be a full closure of the eastbound A27 carriageway between Clapham and the A24 for five nights from 8pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A280 and the A24.
A2070 Ashford, Kent: Junction 10a Construction
Work to improve the network continues this week on the A2070. There is currently a contraflow with 40 mph speed restriction in place between The Boulevard and the M20 Junction 10.
